This module builds on, expands and consolidates the vocabulary, grammar structures learned on SPAN10170 Catalan Beginners A1.1 and works towards developing slightly more complex writing, reading, listening and speaking skills in the Catalan language.

Learning Outcomes:


On satisfactory completion of this module, according to the descriptors of CEFR students should be able to:

1. Understand and use common and daily expressions and simple sentences that satisfy basic communication needs.
2. Understand written signs and posters with frequent words, notifications with simple information.
3. Express lack of comprehension or request repetition of what has been said in the target language
4. Interact with others in a simple manner.
5. Use simple and adapted resources to recognise in the target language know words from the language of learning.
6. Apply communicative strategies to compensate difficulties in expression.

Indicative Module Content:

On completion of this course you will speak, write and converse about the following topics: day to day routines and habits; the body and clothes; shopping; foods, and eating times and taste. The list is not exhaustive.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Teaching and Learning approaches deployed consist of active/task-based learning enhanced with Virtual Learning Environment (Brightspace).

Students are expected to engage in self-learning activities every week, such as, reading and listening to materials relating to the course modules; completing tasks and exercises (including grammar).

Oral interaction in class is expected.
