This module will examine the role of team and groups in organisational change and transformation. Participants will explore the difference between teams and groups and which is fit for purpose. The module will identify the key characteristics of high performing teams as well as common group dynamics that impact performance.
A central component of this module will involve participants completing a team diagnosis and intervention, in an assignment group, with a team in an organisation and in doing so will experience a systemic team development process and the challenges of being a change agent and working with teams within a transformation process. Particular emphasis will be placed on how to intervene into a team to improve its level of effectiveness.

LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR DAY 1
By the end of day 1 participants will be able to:

• Understand why teams are important to your change & transformation process.
• Differentiate between teams and groups and understand which is best for purpose for particular work contexts.
• Identify the common characteristics of a high performing team and what can go wrong in a team environment.
• Build an understanding of the data/survey results for the team you have selected for the pre-work assignment
LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR DAY 2
By the end of day 2 participants will be able to:

• Appreciate the diversity of team interventions and the importance of purpose and timing in choosing team interventions.
• Build an understanding of the data/survey results for the team you have selected for the pre-work assignment.
• Have practiced identifying team problems and selecting appropriate team interventions.
• Understand the role of the leader in developing and coaching the team.
• Articulate your future role with teams as a change agent in your organisation

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The module has a detailed study guide. Students are required to complete the module pre-reading or pre-work prior to attending the seminar sessions. The sessions themselves will be a combination of lectures, group discussion, in-class presentations, case study discussions and classroom exercises. A heavy emphasis in the seminars is on teasing out the implications of theory for practical application in a workplace context.
