This module will provide a foundation for the Organisational Development (OD) field and identify key considerations in designing change and development programmes. Particular attention will be focused on process consultation and the skills of the OD practitioner, individual self-assessment and reflections, and providing foundational information on why change and transformation efforts often fail. The module will adopt an interactive style and use a mix of case studies, self-assessment exercises, videos, experiential learning, and articles to provide foundational knowledge on the change and development process.

The learning outcomes from this module include:
• To develop an understanding of the drivers and enablers of change,
• To evaluate various approaches to leading change,
• To understand why change and transformation efforts often fail,
• To develop an understanding of an individual’s role and strengths in the change process,
• To draw upon participant experiences to identify a few best practices in change management,
• To develop a better understanding of aligning talent with strategy,
• To develop skills to be an effective change agent at work.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The module has a detailed study guide. Students are required to complete the module pre-reading or pre-work prior to attending the seminar sessions. The sessions themselves will be a combination of lectures, group discussion, in-class presentations, case study discussions and classroom exercises. A heavy emphasis in the seminars is on teasing out the implications of theory for practical application in a workplace context.
