LEARNING OUTCOMES
The module will guide students in assimilating research knowledge and skills associated with a range of contemporary healthcare issues.
On successful completion of the module, students should:
Demonstrate an understanding of:
- researching a range of contemporary healthcare issues together with the potential impact on their future professional careers;
- approaches to analysing, critiquing published research papers, reports, and professional guidelines;
- the value of reflection in building personal problem-solving capacity;
- approaches to preparing for informal and formal presentations and workplace-based teaching sessions;
- develop and structure a theoretical argument supported by a critical review of literature and synthesise available evidence;
- evaluate the significance and clinical importance of some of these issues to their future professional careers presented through descriptive dialogue;
- research material and be able to articulate information and conclusions logically and coherently in written and oral presentation.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT OUTCOMES
The module aims to encourage students’ development as effective members of the healthcare team.
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- employ teamwork skills as part of a PBL group;
- achieve specified tasks within given time limits;
- reflect on personal knowledge and understanding, and identify approaches to improve and develop their knowledge and understanding;
- make informed choices and take responsibility for working independently and within groups;
- enter professional discussion concerning specified healthcare issues;
- evaluate the module content in the context of the relevance to their future professional practice;
- adopt a career-long, evidence-based, critical and positive approach to a broad range of healthcare issues.

In this module you'll research a range of issues of contemporary issues in healthcare generally and Irish healthcare specifically.
Topics will be drawn from areas such as: Healthcare in Ireland and Service Delivery; One Health; Sláintecare; Behaviour Change; The Environment and Sustainability; Equality & Diversity; Values based Radiography; Radiography Research Dissemination and Child Protection. Students will be guided through lectures which will be interspersed with problem-based learning (PBL) sessions. The student assessment comprises of various elements.
The aims are to provide students with the opportunity to research, critique, and discuss issues of importance to their future professional practice.

Feedforward will be given to students for their initial PBL diary entries which can be used to assist their submissions with the 2 remaining PBL diary submissions. Group feedback will be given following the PBL presentations.. Post-assessment feedback will be given for the individual research written assignment and the abstract executive summary.
