RDGY30280 Clinical Practice of Radiography 4

This module provides opportunities for students to develop a range of clinical competencies appropriate to a newly qualified radiographer. In clinical departments, final year students will be expected to work competently in all sections of the Imaging Department, under the distant supervision of clinical staff, who will monitor each students progress, assist with specific difficulties and help the individual develop confidence. Each student must keep an reflective portfolio of their clinical work in final year. Full attendance at clinical placement is compulsary and any missed clinical placement time must be rectified as per CORU requirements.

Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge outcomes:
On completion of this module, the student should be able to:
- Competently perform a wide range of general and specialised radiographic examinations within the context of professional guidelines and current legislation.
- Adapt technique depending on the patient presentation and clinical environment.
- Accurately evaluate image quality and radiographc outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of radiographic pathologies encountered.
Professional Skills:
- Demonstrate knowledge of difficulties that may be encountered during radiographic examinations and demonstrate an ability to adapt technique depending on patient presentation and clinical environment.
- Critically evaluate the utility of imaging examinations to patient management.
Personal / Professional Development:
- Perform as an effective member of the imaging department team.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the range of modalities within a modern imaging department and their appropriate application to particular pathologies or anatomical areas.
- Demonstrate personal ability to care for patients appropriately during all examinations.

Learning Requirements:

Candidates must achieve at least 100% attendance at clinical placements, and must successfully complete relevant specified learning activities before taking the end of module assessment.
Candidates not achieving the requisite attendance stated above must, before completing the module and its assessments, undertake such clinical placement as is considered necessary to address the deficit.
Candidates who do not complete the module placements within the prescribed clinical placement period will be scheduled for Clinical Recovery Placements to facilitate students in the completion of the clinical placement requirements.The Clinical Recovery Placements will be scheduled in agreement with supervising Practice Tutors within the clinical environment, which may involve clinical placement during the summer months. Progression to the next stage is not normally allowed if the clinical modules identified in each stage of the programme are not completed prior to the start of the next academic session. For Stage 4 students graduation may be delayed until clinical recovery placements are completed. Students must have completed one of the pre-requisite modules listed.

Compulsory requirements:: Garda Vetting certification, Manual handling certification, Children first certification, Hand Hygiene certification and Basic Life Support certification. Students must comply with Vaccinations policy and fully comply with programme requirements.
Students who fail to attend or fail to achieve a pass in either Basic Life Support or Manual Handling will have to re-take these components and reach a pass before entering clinical (this may incur a cost to the student). all pre-requisites must be successfully completed prior to entering clinical.
