This is a British Psychological Society professionally recognised module leading to a Psychometric Assessment Certificate. The module is skills based and practical; students get foundation training in psychometric theory and further specialist training in educational testing. Educational testing explores the concept of intelligence, cognitive ability profiles, interests and motivations using a blended learning approach to develop the professional competence required to competently administer and interpret relevant psychometric tests. Participants will also be required to prepare reports, and also prepare and deliver feedback.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students will be able to:

1. Understand how tests are developed and standardised, and to appreciate the margins of error in testing
2. Comprehend the relative importance of cognitive and non-cognitive factors in understanding individual difference
3. Appreciate the legislative and policy framework relevant to testing.
4. Understand the purposes of testing and assessment and develop the ability to interpret test scores and integrate those test scores with other forms of assessment.
5. Write and interpret reports based on test data.
6. Report the findings of psychometric assessments in a way that is intelligible to a lay person.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module uses a number of approaches.
The main method is face-to-face lectures and some online seminar(s).
Students are encouraged to engage with recommended materials e.g., readings, videos, podcasts, reports and case studies.
Students will engage in active/task-based learning and skills-based practice.
Case-studies, report writing, and feedback will form the basis of the teaching and learning approach to this module.
