This year long module focuses on introducing students to the basic principles of Foulkesian group analysis. Further to this, students will have the opportunity to study and explore introductory psychoanalytic texts, contemporary group analytic theory, including the social unconscious. This exploration will be enhanced by an experience in a large group setting.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students will:
• Know about the history of psychoanalysis as it applies to the development of the theory of group analysis
• Describe key principles of Foulkesian Group Analysis, including group membership, boundaries, and leadership
• Develop an understanding of the unconscious processes, including projection and transference and the application of these concepts in personal and professional life
• Actively engage and reflect on large group dynamics including the influence of the social unconscious, levels of communication from the manifest to latent level
• Apply critical thinking to theoretical formulations and communicate same in group context.
