This module will take place in Autumn, Spring and Summer Trimesters and will comprise 29 live supervised sessions of 4 hours each. Students will gain experience of working with a wide range of families with a diverse range of issues. The student will have the opportunity to develop a capacity to establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with clients, articulate theoretical perspectives underpinning clinical practice, describe their decision making process from a systemic perspective, and show a capacity to identify, articulate and manage ethical considerations that emerge in therapeutic practice. An aspect of learning for students will be to recognise the limits of their professional knowledge and skills.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students will have learned to: (1) develop a capacity to use the consultation process in relation to Systemic practice. (2) accept accountability within relevant supervisory and management structures. (3) contribute effectively, appropriately and respectfully to teamwork. (4) describe their clinical decision making process from a systemic perspective. (5) develop a recognition of the limits of their professional knowledge and skills. (6) identify and develop appropriate responses to organic problems that impact on emotional interpersonal system difficulties. (7) maintain a therapeutic engagement with clients in the context of an ethically, self reflexive practice. (8) integrate practice into theory and theory into practice.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
• A mid-year clinical evaluation will take place. Students will be asked to write out a summary of their learning needs and submit it to their Supervisor following this review: No grade awarded for this.
• Clinical Evaluation by Supervisor at end of semester 2: 60% of Final Grade.
• Self-Evaluation report at the end of semester 2: 10% of Final Grade.
• Submission of completed clinical portfolio at end of semester 2: 30% of final grade.
