The SPIRe internship is designed to allow graduate students to gain the skills that can be applied to future careers and to apply learning from their taught programmes. Completing an internship allows students to apply relevant learning to a real-world setting. With effective mentorships, the internship will also allow students to assess career paths and see what the work setting looks like, and its potential. The internship also provides relevant professional experience to build an attractive CV and will increase a students knowledge and skills base. Effective internship mentors will also provide career information and introduction to professional networks. They may also act as references for future jobs.

Feedback Strategy/Strategies

• Feedback individually to students, on an activity or draft prior to summative assessment
• Feedback individually to students, post-assessment

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

The typical internship lasts about 10-12 weeks, in which case the student submits a reflective essay every two weeks – for internships of different duration, the time gap can be adjusted, as long as it is equidistant and leads to five reflective essays in total, covering the full period of the internship. The UCD supervisor provides brief feedback, typically by email or via BrightSpace.
