This module focuses on the key role of the property market and the property development process as it interacts with the planning system. The complex nature of different [property markets (residential and commercial) is analysed as is the nature of the property development process. With regard to the latter, there is a particular emphasis on the role of the planning system and planning standards in influencing development viability.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the module students should:
(1) Understand how the development process operates and have an understanding of the principles and theories of the development process.
(2) Be aware of the range of different actors who have a role in the planning and development process and understand the different perspectives of these actors.
(3) Have developed an insight into some of the wider socio-economic impacts of the
development process.
(4) Be able to produce a report critically analysing a development case study.
