PHIL41720

Academic Year 2024/2025
In this module, we shall be introduced to and critically appraise a variety of approaches to and understandings of philosophical methodology. The course will revolve around the question ‘is philosophy a priori or a posteriori?’, and structured (roughly) in accord with developments in the history of 20th century analytic philosophy. We shall meet once weekly, beginning with a short (20-30 mins) presentation by the lecturer and then dedicating the rest of our time (~90 mins) to student led discussion of the topics raised in the assigned text.
