The aim of this module is to offer students an introduction into the business considerations around pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries with a particular focus on how regulatory aspects impact business decision-making. The module will use case studies to illustrate basic business concepts, explore theories of innovation, and to explain how pharma and biotechnology firms capture and create value. Students will learn why financial planning is important even if you have a great product or idea, how 'deals' are structured, different exit strategies and how third party or regulatory assessments of products are undertaken.
