Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this module, students will be able to:
• Describe and discuss the key concepts and regulations in Environmental toxicology and demonstrate a knowledge of the impact of of environmental carcinogens, mutagens, neurotoxins, and immunomodulators.
• Describe the key concepts and regulations in Occupational Toxicology and demonstrate a knowledge of the impact of route of exposure, exposure limits, and key occupational toxins and occupational diseases
• Describe and discuss the concepts and regulatory requirements in Food Toxicology and demonstrate a knowledge of the food safety regulations and regulations regarding additives.
• Demonstrate a knowledge of the sources of potentially toxic substances in food such as microbial toxins, natural toxins from land and marine foodstuffs, mycotoxins, phytochemicals, and pesticides and the relative risks associated with different types of food toxins.
• Describe the engineering and specific uses of nanoparticles and demonstrate a knowledge of the different aspects of the particles which can account for increased toxicity.
• Describe nanotoxicity in terms of environmental, food and occupational exposures.
