The aim of this module is to introduce students to fundamental pharmacology, biochemistry and molecular biology aspects relevant to the field of toxicology.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students will be able to:
1) Explain key principles of toxicology including toxicodynamics and toxicokinetics
2) Explain the principles of assessing and comparing toxicities of chemicals and toxins
3) Outline the main mechanisms by which chemicals cause toxicity at cellular and molecular levels
4) Describe organ-system-specific toxicities including lung, liver, kidney and central nervous system
5) Discuss the key factors underlying different types of toxic responses
