NMHS44240 Clin Practicum Cardiac Child

Academic Year 2024/2025

This module enables the student to apply their knowledge, skills and understanding of specialist theory to patient care.
Competence in the competency in the six domains outlined in the Clinical Competency Assessment Tool (CCAT) will be demonstrated, as well as evidence of leadership, quality, and patient safety in clinical practice. The student will exhibit professional competency on an ongoing basis, and an awareness of importance of professionalism, and individual and collective responsibility for the delivery of high-quality and safe patient care. Repeat assessment on this module means that the student will have one opportunity to undertake the module after the first fail grade has been submitted to the PEB. The timeframe for the repeat assessment will be a one trimester clinical placement in the trimester following the original trimester offering.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion the student will be able to:
-Demonstrate the importance of a culture of quality and safety that promotes openness and transparency, teamwork, and effective communication.
-Describe key QPS considerations and tools to promote on-going enhancement of quality and safety in healthcare delivery.
-Understand errors and patient harm and demonstrate knowledge of how to apply tools to support identification of factors contributing to errors and strategies to monitor and address issues.

Indicative Module Content:

This module is aligned with the HSE QPS strategy and policy, and is rooted in the Irish context. Through the framework for safe, reliable and effective care students will develop the ability to self reflect, and identify strengths and defects, and proactively act on them. Students will recognise the significance of culture, the product of individual and group values, attitudes, competencies and behaviours that form a strong foundation on which to build a learning system.
A strong focus on the clinical learning outcomes is retained in this module, with a necessity to complete the Clinical Competence Assessment Tool, and the specialist competencies pertaining to the clinical aspects of the programme.
