The aim of this module is to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and skills to understand the nature of the therapeutic relationship and its impact on older person care. It also seeks to facilitate students in developing a critical awareness of the contemporary issues in gerontological nursing, in particular those associated with leading and developing integrated services to care for older people.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion the candidate will be able to:
• Exhibit comprehensive knowledge and understanding of an integrated model for care of older people
• Critically evaluate the opportunities and challenges of integrated models of care in improving the health and well-being outcomes of older adults.
• Demonstrate understanding of the nursing contribution to the development of integrated services for older people
• Critically articulate the nursing role in designing, developing and leading high-quality services for older people
• Critique the role of contextual factors influencing the development of quality services, including cultural, political, environmental and socio-economic factors
• Critically discuss contemporary issues in gerontological nursing and how these impact on the development and delivery of services to older people across a range of residential and care settings

Contemporary issues in gerontological nursing
