In this practice-based module students build on the learning and experience gained in Facilitating Student Learning 1 and engage in educational practice in a range of contexts. The student can demonstrate the preparation and capability to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the theoretical modules. The module allows the student to demonstrate the synthesis and integration of knowledge to inform their approach to facilitate student learning. The student presents a theoretically informed and evidence-based approach to teaching and facilitating student learning and assessment. The students will be engaged in teaching practice in his/her relevant profession.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will:
• Expand their repertoire of teaching, learning, assessment and education technology strategies to promote a more engaging
and enjoyable experience for teachers and students
• Approach teaching more creatively through discussion and collaboration with peers
• Utilise relevant research and data to ensure an evidence-based approach to your teaching practice
• Design effective and efficient learning opportunities at module and/or programme level
• Compile a critically reflective portfolio of teaching practice and document progress as an educator
• Decide on future continuing professional development needs.

Indicative Module Content:

Students will explore the pragmatic aspects of teaching and learning and the associated challenges. The focus of this module is the preparation for the educator role.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The module is student led and delivered by blended learning, supported by a full-day workshop. Pre-workshop reading/study and active engagement are key to achieving the learning outcomes. The portfolio will also encourage students to develop as self-directed, lifelong learners and therefore promotes deep reflection on their teaching performance.
