This module offers the student opportunities to explore how NMBI Advanced Practice (Nursing/Midwifery Standards and Requirements will be embedded in practice. Analysis of the role, job description and performance outcomes of the advanced nurse/midwife practitioner will be emphasised. Application of a nursing/midwifery philosophy in collaboration with a model of nursing/midwifery are addressed in this module. Engagement in senior clinical decision making is central to how an RANP/RAMP manages their caseload. Broad based health promotion principles are covered. Your contribution to health care knowledge and research will be embedded throughout the module

Within the clinical environment candidates will expand clinical decision-making abilities and practice by carrying out advanced, complex, case management under the supervision of a designated clinical supervisor. The theoretical component of this module is applied in the clinical practicum

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module the student will be able to:

1. Appraise the professional role of the advanced nurse/midwife practitioner combining a framework with standards of practice.
2. Analyse advanced practice outcomes of care.
3. Design diagnostic algorithms combining evidence based practice and clinical guidelines to support decision analysis.
4. Integrate advanced decision making and diagnostic reasoning with case management.
5. Demonatrate capacity to evolve in response to changing healthcare needs.
