This module focuses on the acquisition of clinical skills that are fundamental to the role of a public health nurse. The module enables the student to apply their knowledge, skills and understanding of specialist public health nursing theory to client care, and will require the student to demonstrate competence within this area of specialist practice. Clinical placement will be supervised and assessed by a preceptor public health nurse. The student and preceptor may plan clinical exposures outside the geographical area and profession of nursing according to the student’s previous experience and requirements to fulfil competencies.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the module, the student should:
1. Critically appraise the delivery of public health nursing service to individuals, families and communities
2. Assess the needs of all client groups in the community setting
3. Develop his/her clinical practice within the context of public health nursing
4. Demonstrate public health nursing case management and caseload management skills
5. Demonstrate competence in all domains of competence as outlined by NMBI
