Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this module, the student will be able to:
•Critically evaluate the epidemiology and natural history of the most common childhood and adolescent cancers.
•Critically discuss the diagnosis and treatment of the most common childhood and adolescent cancers.
•Critically evaluate evidence-based assessment and management strategies (nursing and medical) with reference to disease and treatment related complications in children and adolescents with cancer.
•Critically discuss the impact of cancer on the family and explain the concept of family centred care.
•Mindful of the social determinants of health, critically appraise the specialist nursing role in relation to the provision of support (physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and informational) for patients/families/carers in the context of childhood and adolescent cancer including referral to hospital and credible community based support services in this context.
