Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module the student will:
1. Demonstrate the ability to provide individualised patient care with a non-judgmental approach that respects confidentiality and demonstrates awareness of the ethical, cultural, legal and psycho-social issues involved in a diagnosis of an infectious disease.
2. Further develop and extend specialist theoretical knowledge related to a broad range of Infectious diseases and critically examine the related evidence-based nursing care, practice guidelines and care pathways.
3. Advance his/her ability to conduct a systematic and focused nursing assessment of the patient with infectious diseases, identify priority patient problems, recognise acute deterioration, and devise a patient specific nursing care plan to meet their needs effectively incorporating evidence-based care pathways.
4. Develop a patient education tool for the patient with infectious diseases with the goal of improving health outcomes.
5. Distinguish the safety components of integrated discharge planning and develop an individualised discharge care plan for patients experiencing infectious diseases in their transition of care.

Requirements, Exclusions and Recommendations

Registered General Nurse with minimum 4 months recent clinical practice experience in the acute infectious diseases service. Students are required to complete a minimum of 75 hours clinical experience within the infectious diseases’ services in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital per month for the duration of the CPD module (20 weeks).

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Students shall receive feedback on all assessments associated with the CPD programme. The purpose of feedback is the promotion of learning for the student. Feedback should be clear, understandable and be structured around goals, criteria and standards. Feedback can be in oral or written form, formal or informal. Students are responsible for engaging with feedback and applying consideration to the feedback given on their work. Feedback shall be given no later than twenty working days after the deadline for assessment submission, except work that is submitted late.
