Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this module the student will:
1. Demonstrate the ability to provide individualised patient care with a non-judgmental approach that respects confidentiality and demonstrates awareness of the ethical, cultural, legal and psycho-social issues involved in a diagnosis of an infectious disease.
2. Further develop and extend specialist theoretical knowledge related to a broad range of Infectious diseases and critically examine the related evidence-based nursing care, practice guidelines and care pathways.
3. Advance his/her ability to conduct a systematic and focused nursing assessment of the patient with infectious diseases, identify priority patient problems, recognise acute deterioration, and devise a patient specific nursing care plan to meet their needs effectively incorporating evidence-based care pathways.
4. Develop a patient education tool for the patient with infectious diseases with the goal of improving health outcomes.
5. Distinguish the safety components of integrated discharge planning and develop an individualised discharge care plan for patients experiencing infectious diseases in their transition of care.
