Indicative Learning Outcomes
On completion of the programme, the participant will be able to:
• Demonstrate the knowledge and management of common Haematology and Oncology conditions affecting children.
• Demonstrate competence in the safe handling and administration of Systemic Anticancer Therapies (SACT) and provision of effective nursing care of a child receiving SACT.
• Critically discuss the nursing management of a child requiring Supportive Care.
• Critically analyse HaemOnc Complications & Emergencies and discuss the prevention and nursing care of a child with same.
• Describe the philosophy and principles of Palliative care/ End of life care to a child and their families.
• Appreciate and discuss the psychological and social impact of childhood cancer and recognise the unique contribution of the multidisciplinary team in providing support for the child, family, self and colleagues.
Content focuses on the delivery of family centred care.
Focus on the provision of physical, and psychosocial supportive care
Administration of systemic anti-cancer treatment.
Assessment and management of disease and treatment related complications in children and adolescents with cancer.

Module Dependencies:
• Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
• Deemed suitable for this programme by the Clinical Nurse Manager/Clinical Nurse Facilitator
• Employed in St. John’s Ward/HODU for a minimum of 12 weeks prior to commencing the programme.
• Successful completion of individual preceptorship and IV Therapy Management assessment.
• Successful completion of individual mandatory training.

Feedback and feedforward strategies will be used on an ongoing basis in the clinical setting to assist students to reach their full potential. This will be done in a collaborative way with the student being assisted to identify specific learning outcomes and given guidance on how to achieve them on a day to day basis. Students will also require access to internet and the appropriate online meeting Apps.
