The aim of this module is to facilitate students to gain experience in caring for children and their families in the accident and emergency and high dependency settings. It is designed to facilitate the learning of essential clinical skills and the attainment of performance indicators related to the NMBI domains of competence assessment framework. These practice placements are designed to facilitate the integration of knowledge and practice under the supervision of a registered nurse. The module is part of the essential clinical requirements for professional registration.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module in the accident and emergency department and high dependency unit, students will have
1. Attained predetermined performance indicators and demonstrated psychomotor skills related to the domains of competence in caring for children.
2. Identified key ethical and professional issues related to the child and family centred care.
3. Identified the elements of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of caring for children and their families.
4. Identified strengths and weakness of personal communication techniques.
5. Identified how child and family centred care is organized and managed in these two clinical units.
6. Identified strategies to enhance the student's own clinical learning experience in the accident and emergency and high dependency units.
