The module is designed to facilitate the learning of essential clinical skills and the attainment of performance indicators related to the NMBI domains of competence assessment framework. This module will assist students to develop an understanding of how to provide nursing care for children and their families in the practice setting under distant supervision. Students will engage in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for children and their families under the supervision of a registered nurse. Practice placements are designed to facilitate the integration of knowledge and practice. This module is part of the essential clinical requirements for professional registration.
Students will be required to attend a reflective practice workshop in UCD to meet the requirements of this module.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module students will have:
1. Attained predetermined performance indicators and demonstrated psychomotor skills related to the domains of competence.
2. Identified key ethical and professional issues related to child and family centred care.
3. Identified the elements of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for children and their families.
4. Identified the strengths and weaknesses of personal communication techniques.
5. Identified how child and family centred care is organised and managed.
6. Identified strategies to enhance the student's own clinical learning.
