Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this module, the student will be able to:
1. Critically discuss the evolution of, and ethical issues in, children’s nursing.
2. Evaluate theories and models of nursing appropriate to children’s nursing including child and family
centred care.
3. Integrate existing nursing knowledge, skills and attitudes in assessing, planning, implementing and
evaluating care according to the needs of children and their families.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of medication management and respective regulatory guidelines.
5. Demonstrate knowledge and application of the ISBAR guidelines and Paediatric Early Warning
System to recognise, interpret and respond to alterations and deteriorations in a child’s health
status.
6. Demonstrate specific techniques required to communicate with children and their families.
7. Examine scope of practice and factors involved in clinical decision making in the practice of
children’s nursing.
