Registration alone does not guarantee participation.

This module offers students the opportunity to participate as a performer in the Choral Scholars of University College Dublin as a creditable module across levels 1-3. The Scholars perform regularly both in UCD and at concerts and engagements nationally and abroad. Repertoire is diverse, embracing music from renaissance polyphony topopular and traditional-Irish arrangements, and includes both a cappella singing and new choral works. There are 18 places, a certain number of which become available on a yearly basis. Admission is STRICTLY by AUDITION at the start of Autumn.


About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to
- Participate in the choir both as a soloist and within the group
- Develop sight-reading skills and the ability to perform to a high standard in a mixed choral group
- Perform in a wide variety of choral repertoire to a high standard
- Undertake regular performing and administrative responsibilities.

Indicative Module Content:

Contemporary Irish choral works, Christmas and Advent music, Irish traditional works in arrangement, and the music of the Venetian masters (17th Century) will form the core repertoire.

Collaborative rehearsal and group performance for peers forms the core of the continuous assessment element of this module. Feedback is given to the entire ensemble, and to individuals if deemed appropriate, in rehearsals ahead of performances. Comment is invited from peers on presentations.
