Organisations are increasingly driven toward integrated interaction throughout their value chain where the ability to manage business operations utilising digital technologies is changing from being a competitive advantage to a pre-requisite in many industry sectors.

This module identifies and discusses technologies that underlie electronic business (Digital Business) processes and applications. Main topics covered include networking and communications technologies, Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 infrastructures, Digital Business security infrastructure and applications, online payment systems, and the impact of Digital Business on different industry sectors.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:

a) Demonstrate a sound understanding of the major issues surrounding Digital Business infrastructure and associated applications.
b) Evaluate and advise on current and emerging Digital Business technologies and applications
c) Identify and analyse Digital Business application opportunities focussing on current and emerging Digital Business infrastructure components, such as mobile.

UCD has adapted these competencies and is combining them with others to form a general framework of learning competencies. This module will help you develop the competencies below to the levels specified.

 The ability to understand, critically evaluate and responsibly engage with artificial intelligence; to recognise how AI systems are shaped by human values; to assess their ethical, social and environmental implications; and to exercise human judgement, agency and accountability in AI-related contexts.  Wellbeing is having the resources and skills to meet life's challenges, including attributes such as personal development skills, resilience, stress management, strengths, lifestyle skills, nutrition, physical activity, sleep, alcohol/substance use, academic skills, time management, goal setting, interpersonal skills, group work, communication. Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Students will attend classes for this module and have the opportunity to engage in active learning during these sessions. There will be in-class discussion and group work to analyse module concepts. Where appropriate, the module will incorporate case based learning.
