To inform students of the steps involved in the production of commercially important chemicals from microorganisms, and provide students with an understanding of the principles and practice of cell culture in relation to biotechnology. The topics that will be covered in the module will include
• Industrially important microbial products
• Methods for the design of novel microbial products
• Culture and maintenance of mammalian cells
• Laboratory Design, Layout, Equipment, Safety
• Scale-up of microbial and eukaryotic cell cultures

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

The students will have a deep understanding of the manufacture of products of commercial interest from microbial and mammalian cell cultures, the technology involved and an appreciation of biotech product development and implementation.
