MFD20010 Producing Music, Film & Drama

Academic Year 2024/2025

In this practice-based module, students will collaborate in the production and performance of a creative artefact (for example, a dramatic sequence, a short film or a musical recital) under the guidance of the teaching team and guest speakers. The format, thematic content and structure of the artefact will be generated in response to student research into the National Folklore Collection. Students will master the production skills (logistical, editorial, technological) necessary to realise that vision through individual and small-group tasks. The creative artefact will be showcased in a performance in Week 11 and a digital version may subsequently archived online.

In this module, students will gain insight into the role of collaboration, organisation and compromise in the creative industries. The practice-based learning environment will enable each student to explore creative possibility and take risks, as well as developing professional discipline and collective responsibility.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Students will start to prepare the digital artefact from the outset of class, breaking into smaller groups and thinking through the process and the output with key stakeholders. The process journal is intended to give you a space to both reflect on the work you are doing and identify areas that need more development, which we will provide for you in our weekly class sessions. The final project then is the culmination of the weekly process and the skills and ideas you develop in class.
