Students will prepare and submit a 8,000 - 10,000 word thesis at the end of the second trimester of the second academic year of taking the Graduate Diploma programme. In preparation, they will be expected to submit a comprehensive dissertation proposal including a literature review by the end of trimester one of second year. Direction and supervision in formulating their proposal and progressing their written work will be provided over year two of the programme. Up to six sessions of individual supervision will be available over the final trimester. The dissertation should be evidently informed by the student’s experience of the psychoanalytic field including their own psychoanalysis.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:
• Conduct research into a relevant theoretical problem in the field of psychoanalysis and write up a scholarly dissertation of 8,000 -10,000 words
• Conduct research using a methodology appropriate to the field of psychoanalysis
• Conduct research informed by an experience of psychoanalysis
