The student will acquire, through fieldwork, the capacity to maintain an adequate adult group analytic psychotherapy group. The student will to conduct an adequate adult group analytic group (size, composition, level of communication) for 30 sesssions of ninety minutes over the course of the year. The student will also continue to carry out individual assessments of clients suitability for the group. The capacity to develop the group by applying group analytic principles should be demonstrated. The student will be encouraged to reflect on their capacity to build a therapeutic culture and to encourage the transfer of therapeutic agency from conductor to group.

This is a must-pass module for the programme. In other words, a student cannot complete the MSc without passing this module regardless of grades across all other modules.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

1. Formulate the experience of group analytic assessment and treatment. 2. Acquire a critical awareness of group dynamics which consolidates skills of critical analysis through practical work. 3. Produce a log of 45 hours of supervised clinical work over the year. 4. Demonstrate a capacity to apply skills and theory in complex clinical and organisational populations.
