This module delineates and explores the role and technique of the group analytic conductor at an advanced level. Students will be guided to develop a mobile perspective on group interactions which includes the conductor as therapist and group member; complex decision making in terms of establishing and maintaining boundaries, assessment and selection of members for group, composition of group, promotion of free-floating discussion in the group. Observation and interpretation of the language of the group will be examined at an advanced level, and intervention strategies to deal with blockages of communication and destructive processes will be fully explored. Attention will be given to developing the student's awareness of individual transferences within the group and towards the conductor and to the group as a whole, and to countertranference issues.
