Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module students should be able to:
- Synthesise complex literature,
- Carry out data collection and analysis in the chosen fields,
- Critically reflect on and evaluate current theories, methods and data sets (accounts, explanations) in a number of areas of Linguistics.
Indicative Module Content:
This module provides students with an opportunity to broaden their knowledge in several fields of Linguistics. It is aimed at developing and enhancing crucial research skills such as primary data collection and analysis, critical assessment of data and reflection of theoretical models, concepts and notions by engaging in mid-sized focused studies in three separate areas in linguistics. Each project will be completed under the guidance of a lecturer with expertise in the area.
These research papers should be considered as major pieces of formal and structured writing, in which ideas and findings are critically discussed and communicated in a reasoned and coherent manner, according to the current state-of-the art in the field.
