This module introduces the legal framework relevant for practitioners in the arts, culture, and heritage sectors.
It examines how culture is defined in law; what areas of culture are governed; and how human rights and culture
interact with one another. It also examine the fundamentals of intellectual property law and the way in which it
applies in the creative industries. Finally, the module also provides an overview of employment law in the arts.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students will have:

-Developed an understanding of the role of law in the arts, culture and heritage sectors;
-Gained knowledge of the fundamentals of cultural heritage law, intellectual property law, and employment law;
-Identified the links between culture and human rights; and
-Demonstrated an ability for critical thinking about the relationship between law and culture more broadly.

-Human Rights Law, esp. the right to take part in cultural life

-Intellectual Property Law, Copyright

-Employment Law in the Arts
