This module will introduce students to fundamental concepts in Irish property law. It will cover:

(a) The legal nature of property and property rights
(b) The role and influence of the law of equity
(c) The theory of estates
(d) Freehold estates
(e) Adverse possession
(f) Succession Law

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this module students will be able to:

(a) Describe and identify the principal legal rules governing the topics encountered
(b) Apply those rules to simple and complex problems
(c) Reflect critically on the policy choices underpinning the rules
(d) Conduct independent legal research

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Major cases and statutes will be discussed during lectures.

Students will be expected to engage in group discussion in seminar and will be required to complete pre-assigned readings.
