This module is an introduction to the Latin language aimed at beginners who want to learn Latin and develop their knowledge of Roman culture. We will explore aspects of Roman myth and history by reading adapted Latin texts. You will learn elementary Latin grammar and syntax, and develop your understanding of principles of grammar and the Latin roots of the English language. The textbook is:

Latin via Ovid: A First Course. Second Edition. Norma Goldman and Jacob E. Nyenhuis. 1982

The textbook is supplemented by interactive learning games and activities.

There are some places available for elective students, international students and postgraduates. The module is not open to students with Leaving Cert Latin or equivalent: if you have previously studied Latin, contact the module coordinator for advice.
