This module aims to provide practitioners with the linguistic knowledge and analytical skills they will need in order to teach the English language system in terms of sounds, words, grammar and discourse. Participants will develop their ability to use linguistic description accurately and appropriately, to identify systemic differences in languages, and to select appropriate linguistic content for learners. They will also begin to consider how learners' language can be analysed to understand their language development. Reference will be made throughout to Insights on language systems which have been developed through corpus linguistics research.
