With support from Microsoft Ireland, the UCD Centre for Digital Policy is delivering a suite of educational programmes with the goal of building digital policy training and capacity in Ireland, Europe and beyond. The Professional Certificate will build on existing expertise and infrastructure across academic, government, industry and civil society organisations to address the increased demand for digital policy knowledge and skills among professionals working in industry, the public sector and civil society organisations. It provides a one term introduction to digital policy that will be aimed at individuals already working in these areas and also to those who want an introduction to key issues in digital policy. Prepared as a series of lectures, presentations from experts, and hands-on activities, this programme is entirely online for two hours a week.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

- Familiarity with the literatures and current debates on digital policy
- Understanding of the appliedy policy making and evaluation processes
- Knowledge of theoretical and empirical concepts to contemporary issues in digital policy

Indicative Module Content:

Drawing on the state of the art in social science, policy analysis, law, ethics, and design, this module will provide a multidisciplinary introduction to current challenges, debates, and approaches to designing, implementing, and developing policy for different organisational and technological contexts. Topics will include the policy process, current trends and issues in policy making, industry, academic, and civil society organisation perspectives. Module will include lectures, group discussions, and hands-on activities.
