Curricular information is subject to change.

In addition to key competencies, an important facet of professional LIS training is the inclusion of learning opportunities which support students in developing an understanding of the connection between disciplinary theories and their application to professional practice, and which inculcate an emerging sense of professional identity and socialisation through engagement with clients, colleagues, and professional networks in a real-world setting. The aim of this module is to provide students with the opportunity to gain authentic, practical workplace experience in an information, library or communication organisation as part of their professional training, through facilitating an internship or work placement. Students will develop and enhance professional skills and competencies in a supervised setting, and receive advice, guidance and mentoring from a qualified information professional in relation to their workplace activities and career development. They will also critically reflect on their experience in respect of their professional training, career aspirations and personal development.
