Students will need a laptop and Wifi connection to participate fully in this module.
Each seminar will be a two-hour session involving a specialist lecture followed by general discussion. The lecture will be concerned with a specific topic, and the discussion will focus on what can be learned from an investigation of that topic. In this way, the methods of study of folklore will be tested, and a variety of interpretations probed, with the intention of gaining new insights into the particular topic and into folklore studies in general over a wide range.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

Students will have gained experience in folkloric research, having engaged with staff in the pursuit of knowledge using methodology appropriate to the study of oral tradition and lore. Such experience will have developed both confidence and sophistication in this realm of learning, and will have equipped the students with the necessary tools for further investigation and analysis of data

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Teaching is carried out in seminar-style participatory classes. Archival and primary sources are widely used in all modules, and students are also encouraged to make use of digital archive resources in their research and learning.
