This course is aimed at students who are interested in working through Irish in the legal field. The objective of the course will be to provide students with specific Irish language skills so that they are able to apply for jobs as translators of legal texts in Ireland and in the European Union. Emphasis will be placed in the second trimester on translating longer passages that are challenging in terms of grammar and syntax, on conducting a critical analysis of translations of legislation and of legal documents, on proofreading and on the use of online resources to make accurate translations available quickly. Some general information will be provided on professional opportunities for translators in the legal field. You will also gain a deeper understanding of the background and context of the obligation to make documents relating to the law available in Irish. In addition, you will gain further experience of the psychometric tests that are used as part of the recruitment process for translators in the European Union. Module IR 40390 Dlí I must be passed before beginning this module.
