This module examines current Human Resource management (HRM) issues and practices. Topics covered will include: strategic HRM - it's nature and the factors that influence the shape of an organisation's HR policies and practices; each of the core HR policy areas will be reviewed including for example: performance management; recruitment and selection, and employee voice.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completing this module, students should be able to:assess the variety of internal and external factors that influence the context and nature of HRM strategy, policies and practices; compare and contrast the strategic options available to organisations in respect of each core HR activity such as: staffing; performance management; the management of employee voice.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Lecture based sessions which will include the analysis of case studies and practitioner input sessions.

Learning Requirements:

This is core module for a specialist postgraduate degree in HRM. To ensure that students can engage fully with the module enrolment will be restricted to students who have completed an undergraduate module in human resource management or who shave atisfied the entry requirements for the MSc Business (HRM).
