This module examines central issues in employment relations (ER) in Ireland in comparative context. The module examines employer strategies towards trade unions and collective bargaining, the conduct of ER in multinationals in Ireland, trade unions, pay determination and developments in ER in the public sector.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completing this module students will be expected to be able to understand the current situation and recent trends in the areas examined; assess developments in ER in Ireland in comparative context; apply the knowledge gained to provide specialist advice or assessments relating to the areas examined.Critically appraise major research contributions to the areas examined.Demonstrate an analytical and critical capacity to assess the areas examined.

Lectures and class discussions, based on class learning materials and assigned readings.

Learning Requirements:

An honours degree in commerce, business, human sciences, history, European studies, or an honours degree in any discipline combined with direct work experience in any area of industrial relations or human resources.

Learning Recommendations:

This course is a core requirement of the M.Sc. (HRM).
