Probability is a branch of mathematics to study and reveal the regularity of statistics in random phenomena. It is a professional basic course of statistics in South China Agricultural University, which is the basis for continuing to learn mathematical statistics, random processes and courses related to Probability. Probability is a highly applied mathematical discipline, which is widely used in finance, insurance, securities, engineering technology and natural science. It is the basic tool to analyze and solve problems in various disciplines and combines with different problems to form many branches.

Through the study of this course, students can systematically obtain the basic knowledge of probability theory, and enable them to preliminarily master the basic ideas and methods of dealing with random phenomena, and have the theoretical basis for analyzing and processing random data, which lays the necessary foundation for the study of subsequent courses.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
In the teaching process, according to the characteristics of students of various majors, heuristic, case-based, problem-driven and other teaching methods are adopted, based on the basic theoretical knowledge and focusing on the ability improvement. On the one hand, students can understand the basic knowledge system of probability theory, on the other hand, focus on the cultivation of students ' innovative consciousness and the ability to solve practical problems by applying modern technology. Through the study of this course, students ' interest in learning probability theory knowledge and applying knowledge is stimulated, and their ability to solve practical problems is improved.

While carrying out the teaching of probability theory, we should expand the experimental and practical teaching, change the traditional teaching mode of cramming education, and adopt heuristic, case-based, problem-driven and other teaching methods to cultivate students' ability of independent thinking, cultivate students' practical ability and innovation ability, and realize the integration of innovation ability training into the whole process of education and teaching.
