This module provides fundamental economic principles concerning global food production and marketing. It examines supply and demand relationships, the government policies and regulations, and the marketing mix decisions. It also considers the economics of international trade and the its implications for domestic food businesses within the world economics system.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the module students are expected to have a better understanding of the economics behind the global food production system, being able to evaluate the comparative advantage of food products with implications to business strategies.

Indicative Module Content:

• Understand the underlining economics theories that influence food production
• Apply basic economic reasoning to issues within the food system
• Explore food policies and regulations with implications to market and business decisions
• Explore marketing mix decisions in the global context
• Discuss the driving and restraining forces affecting production and marketing decisions
