EEEN3001J Electronics for Sensors

Restriction: Beijing-based students only.

This course deals with the analysis and design of electronic circuits that are used with sensors to deliver reliable information in digital form.

Topics include: overview of sensing systems and sensor examples, signal transport and condition, op-amps for sensing applications, instrumentation amplifier, oscillators, sampling, analogue to digital conversion, filters. Some common sensors are covered during the course through application examples.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to

- Understand and compare the different ways of obtaining and transmitting information from sensors
- Explain how op-amps can be used to derive useful data from sensors and design circuits for this purpose
- Understand the concept of the differential signal and the associated differential amplifier
- Design feedback oscillators including nonlinear amplitude control
- Explain the process and requirements of sampling
- Recall and analyse circuits for analogue to digital, and digital to analogue conversion
- Analyse and design passive/active filters
