The Graduate Futures Workshop Module is designed to prepare PhD Candidates in the School for the academic and alt ac job markets, to articulate academic and transferable skillsets, and to draft, workshop, and revise specific materials.
This module is intended for those in or beyond the third year of graduate study. Researchers may enter the module with a drafted set of materials or at the start of their job-search preparation. The module is designed as a supportive peer review and mentoring setting. All materials and conversations will remain confidential. EDF Students taking the module for credit will benefit from the participation of postdocs, occasional lecturers, and PhD candidates from other Schools.
This module offers 12 2-hour sessions per annum (of which you must attend at least 5). Sessions are run by faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, public humanities professionals, and University Career specialists. These sessions will address the preparation of specific academic job search materials (job letters, C.V., reference letters, grant proposals, teaching portfolios, abstracts, and writing samples), and alt ac searches (Resumes, job searches, transferable skills, alumni experiences). One-on-one mentoring will also be offered.
Credit requirements include attendance at workshop sessions and the work of drafting and refining job market materials. Students are expected to work with the coordinator and their own RSP for this process. A selection of relevant materials will be submitted as a pass/fail final assessment.
