The aim of this module is to provide students with the opportunity to gain advanced Chemical/Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering work experience, in a structured setting, for a period of 3-4 months, typically, beginning in May. Students enrolling in CHEN40750 will normally have completed 4 academic years of their studies, including a 15-week placement in industry (as part of CHEN40740: CBE Work Placement I), immediately prior to the CHEN40750 placement. Students will typically complete the CHEN40740 and CHEN40750 placements consecutively, within the same company; typically, the same Academic Supervisor and Industrial Sponsor will apply for both CHEN40740 and CHEN40750. The 10-credit CHEN40750 placement is expected to involve work, outside UCD, on a full-time basis. Attendance requirements are agreed in consultation with the student, Academic Supervisor and Sponsor and may, in certain cases, exceed the minimum requirements of the module descriptor. Students will normally complete two additional 10-credit modules during this period allied to CHEN40750, namely CHEN40760 (Research Methods in CBE) and CHEN40700 (Adv. CBE Work Place. Knowledge).

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this modules, the student should be able to:

- Apply, to practical situations, chemical/bioprocess and general engineering knowledge.

- Identify and handle the wider implications of his/her work as an engineer, including health, hazard and safety aspects, sustainability aspects, commerical and economic aspects.

- Show evidence of interpersonal, leadership and communication skills, including the ability to manage interpersonal relationships; demonstration of leadership in a professional role; communicate ideas and plans by report-writing and oral presentation.

- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to high standards of professional and ethical conduct.

- Describe the benefits of continuing professional development (CPD) and develop a personal CPD plan.
