The purpose of the Management Consulting Internship is to give students the opportunity to work with a client organisation to gain valuable first-hand experience of a professional consulting environment. The student is based in the host-company's office on a full or part-time basis, working on one specific project or on a number of projects within the firm environment. Students should have access to mentors and / or senior managers while engaged in the internship.

(Please note that this in not a classroom-based module. Students engage in self-directed learning and research on-site with the company or elsewhere.)

Internships are self-sourced by the student, or in a limited number of cases, sourced by the university or the Programme Director. The internship arrangements will be approved by the Programme Director with required information provided by the student via My Internships on SIS Web.

***Please note that all internships must be of a minimum 8 weeks duration.***

Avaialbility of internships is not guaranteed and is dependent on market demand and suitability.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

The MC Internship is an opportunity for MSc. in MC students to gain valuable professional experience, including coaching / mentoring by senior business leaders.

On completion of the internship, students should:
1. Understand the challenges and specific requirements of working in a professional workplace environment;

2. Appreciate the value of business networking and workplace mentoring;

3. Experience the realities of working as a management consultant;

4. Demonstrate an ability to apply analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.

Students are based on site with their host companies and will complete an individual reflective journal.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Action-based learning via completing an internship with a host company, and self-assessment and reflection by completing a reflective paper on completion of the internship. Reflection Paper guidelines and suggested topics will be provided.
