The main objective of this project-based module is to provide students with a deeper, more practical understanding of company strategy formulation and implementation in a globalised economy. The focus of each project will be on developing evolved entry strategies for a particular product / service into a particular international market. Groups will be working on a live project with an allocated company.

At the group level, 5% is allocated for the initial research proposal having met with company and decided on brief. 50% is allocated for the final group project written report and presentation. At the individual level, 25% is allocated for meeting attendance and participation, and 20% for a learning journal.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completing this module, students will be expected to be able to:

1. Develop an understanding of the different strategic challenges an Irish firm faces when operating in an international environment.
2. Examine and explain the nature of industry competitiveness, the nature of resources and capabilities globally and the role of institutions, cultures and ethics and their implications for international entry strategies for their firm.
3. Have learnt successful strategies for entering new markets with a real life Irish company.
4. Have received mentoring from successful business people.
5. Have enhanced their CV and become more employable.
6. Have honed their presentation skills in front of successful business people.
7. Have learnt how to deliver and present a professional report.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
As this is a live consultancy project, the lecturer acts both as a mediator and moderator, in helping and facilitating the progress of the project.
